Saturday Samplings at Bourbon & Canal

November 13, 2009

We have some fun and very nice drinks for you to taste this Saturday at Bourbon & Canal. And at some unbeatable prices, too.

As always, we “pop the corks” at around noon, and continue sampling all through the day and evening. We usually run out around 9-10pm. Stop in any time that’s convenient for you.

First up: Oliver Sangria

From Indiana’s most-popular and best-selling winery, a new ready-to-drink sangria. Semi-sweet red wine with fruit juices makes for a tasty, refreshing combo good anytime (don’t worry about food pairings, just pour and enjoy).

For beer drinkers: Fat Tire amber ale

This beer has a cult following across the country. It took years before they finally released it into Indiana a couple of months ago. It’s a really nicely done ale that everyone should try. And here’s the best part: to celebrate the (finally!) launch in Indiana, we have 12 pack cans of Fat Tire on sale for $6 off (sale: $10.99, reg. $16.99, while supplies last).

A special treat in spirits: Hangar One Raspberry

The team at Hangar One makes some incredible spirits; they are among our favorites of all time. Small-batch by-hand production, made with all-natural gourmet-quality fruit….they do it right. Their raspberry vodka is released only once per year, and it is made with raspberries from the Fraser River region, which are highly coveted by top-tier California chefs. You can really taste the quality difference, and we hope you’ll take a minute to experience it with us Saturday. And, another bonus: while this is regularly a quite-pricey bottle ($36.99 a bottle) on Saturday we will give it to you for a relative bargain of $29.99. That’s $7 off, which makes it less costly than Grey Goose (and a much tastier choice!). We only have an allocation of 15 bottles, so if this sounds like your thing we suggest you come earlier rather than later in the day.

That’s the scoop for Saturday. We look forward to seeing you!

Drinking Well in a Recession….

November 4, 2009

“Attention Shoppers!”

You do not have to compromise on the quality of your drinks just because we’re in a recession!

(IF you shop at Bourbon & Canal, that is. Read on…)

Here are some tips on how you can continue to drink well on a modest budget:

For Beer Drinkers:

If you are a microbrew drinker and like to explore and try different things, there is almost always something on sale. Right now, we have Fat Tire 12 packs for only $13.99 (reg. $16.99).

For Wine Drinkers:

There are plenty of wines around $10 that are nice quality for everyday purposes. Because we are tasting new wines all the time, we are able to find the ones that offer better quality than most, and we flag those on the shelf with our recommendation card and tasting notes so you can find them easily. In the past two months we have more than doubled our selection of wines under $10, so you’ll have plenty to explore.

For Spirits Drinkers:

Our “Best Buy” right now would be Smirnoff vodka in the 1.75L size; we’ve just lowered the price from $22.99 to $19.99 and plan to keep it there indefinitely. And in case you hadn’t heard, Smirnoff is actually better quality than many people think. In fact, in a New York Times blind taste test, it was ranked #1… ahead of Grey Goose and all the others. Solid quality and a new, lower price equals a Best Buy.

So there are a few tips for recessionary drinking. By shopping at Bourbon & Canal you already get the benefit of our everyday low prices. And, if you pay attention and choose wisely, you can get some real bargains. So, don’t compromise. In fact, give a toast to smart shopping during a recession!

Cheers!
