Beer Sale! Plus: Hoops, Easter, Baseball, Tastings, New Arrivals & More

April 1, 2010

Friends, there’s a lot to talk about this week. So buckle up and read on…

1.  Hoops!

Basketball calls for beer, right? To celebrate the Final Four being played in Indianapolis, and especially the success of our ‘hometown favorite’ Bulldogs, we’re having the best beer sale of the year this weekend:

18 pack cans of Bud, Miller and Coors products are only 9.99 (reg. 14.99). Beer will never be this cheap again. (seriously!) And of course as always, at Bourbon & Canal you never pay extra to get it cold. So get on over to the store between now and Saturday and stock up.

2.  Easter. And Passover.

Easter is a great family holiday, and traditionally Easter dinner includes either turkey, ham or pork roast. So we suggest you pick up a couple of bottles of Pinot Noir, which will pair very nicely with any of the above. In fact, on this weekend’s tasting we’re featuring a new Pinot Noir we just found recently and liked, Smoking Loon Pinot Noir, at only 9.99 a bottle. And for beer lovers, Three Floyds has released their annual Rabbid Rabbit in celebration of Easter, in stock now.

For Passover, many families share the traditional Kosher wines made by either Manischewitz or Mogen David. We have all the varieties of both brands. But we hear from some shoppers that while those are traditional favorites, some people find them too sweet. So we can also offer you a very nice dry Cabernet Sauvignon: Recanati Cabernet is grown and made in Israel, and is Kosher certified. It’s good Cabernet by any standard, and reasonably priced at 14.99.

3.  Baseball!

Sunday is opening day, which is enough to convince us that Spring is here to stay. To kick off the season right, we have the limited edition Old Style Cubs bottles. And we’ve put them on sale this weekend at only 9.99 for a 24-pack case while supplies last. It doesn’t get any better than that!

4.  Saturday Tastings

Our every-Saturday free tasting lineup looks great for this weekend:

  • Crown Royal Black – just released this week, this is a new variety of Crown Royal that has been aged longer in dark charred barrels, and bottled at 90 proof. Early reports are good. Come try it for yourself and see.
  • Smoking Loon Pinot Noir – perfect for Easter dinner.
  • Oberon – also just released this week is Bell’s Brewery’s Spring/Summer seasonal called Oberon. It has a hint of orange to the taste, and is light and crisp for summer sipping. One of our summer favorites. Taste it with us Saturday and pick up a 6 or 12 pack to celebrate Spring.

5.  New Arrivals

Lots of great new things came in this week:

  • Hop Hound beer
  • Wyder’s Apple Cider
  • Wyder’s Pear cider
  • 1800 Ultimate Margarita, pre-mixed and ready-to-serve
  • 1800 Ultimate Pomegranate Margarita
  • Bunratty Potcheen – an Irish moonshine. Interesting.
  • Three Floyds Rabbid Rabbit – a seasonal beer released for Easter each year
  • Smoking Loon Pinot Noir – on tasting this weekend
  • Crown Royal Black – on tasting this weekend

That’s all the news for this week. There are plenty of reasons to get all your friends together, so enjoy the weather and the festivities. Stop and see us this weekend to stock up on the beer sale and all your weekend drinking requirements.

Forward this on to your friends, too.

Cheers!

Holiday Beers are in…

December 4, 2009

They’re here!

Small craft breweries always release their holiday beers around this time of year. Christmas or Holiday beers are traditionally ales, and are darker, richer, and more flavorful. You’ll often taste flavors like cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, allspice, vanilla, etc. depending on the brewmaster’s recipe. These beers go great with the new cold weather and match up nicely with more robust holiday foods.

We have by far the largest selection of holiday beers around…and they’re all in stock and ready for your enjoyment. Here’s the (lengthy) list:

  • Santa’s Butt – Winter Porter
  • Seriously Bad Elf – English Double Ale
  • Reindeer’s Revolt – English Christmas Ale
  • Bad Elf – Winter Ale
  • Insanely Bad Elf – Imperial Red Ale
  • Breckenridge Christmas Ale
  • Bell’s Christmas Ale
  • Affligem Noel Christmas Ale
  • Corsendonk Christmas Ale
  • Serafijn Christmas Angel – Amber Ale
  • Kerstmutske Christmas Nightcap – Belgian Ale
  • Christmas in Belgium – a sampler pack of 5 Belgians
  • 12 Dogs of Christmas Ale – from Thirsty Dog Brewery
  • Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout
  • Three Floyds Alpha Klaus
  • Delirium Noel
  • Harpoon Winter Warmer
  • Samuel Smith Winter Welcome
  • Schlafly Christmas Ale
  • Anchor Christmas Ale
  • Winter’s Bourbon Cask Ale
  • Goose Island Christmas Ale

Because these are special releases, when they’re gone, they’re gone. Be sure you get a chance to try at least a couple of these before the holidays are gone. Or maybe invite some friends over to taste and enjoy a bunch of them – it makes a great theme for a casual holiday get-together.
